This is one amazing portable hard drive and never fails to create the WOW factor wherever I take it, absolute must buy (especially when the color matches that of your laptop!)
Only one thing - never let the USB cable snap out due to pulling, the USB slot on the drive itself is very sensitive (and perhaps a little flimsy) and can change its location which means you have to use your nails to position it correctly so that it matches the slot! |

Have so many CDs. Not enough space in my room to display. And not enough space in my MacBook Pro to store. Was Looking for solution and found this Western Digital 250GB Hard Drive. Now it fits about 400 albums so far. Most of them are stored as .AIFF format and about 5% as .MP3 and other formats. Still 55GB space left to use.
Takes approximately 30 seconds to show up Hard Drive Icon when plugged into MacBook Pro which I use it mostly with. On PCs, more or less similar access time. The drive looks bright red on the picture. That's what I thought. But it's kinda dark metallic red and looks very cool. Fed up of white and black colors on computers, laptops and iPods.
It even fits in my shirt's pocket easily. And it goes with me anywhere in the world. Now thinking of buying another WD Passport Hard Drive on different color to store my movies and pictures. It doesn't need any power adapter but it's powered by USB and comes with one USB cable.
But one problem - I tried to copy a video file of 5GB. And I could not. Contacted Wetern Digital Online. They replied It's pre-formatted with FAT32 File System which doesn't allow to copy or transfer a file sized more than 4GB at one time. Needs to be formatted. And once it's formatted, PC will not recognize it. That's the only problem so far. |

| Took it out the packet, ignored the supplied software, and started saving right away. I also like the short USB cable, it suits my set-up. |

| I was given a WD Passport in Ruby Red for my birthday on 29 January having ordered it late on 27 Jan. It arrived SD and I immediately linked it up and transferred files from my PC - mainly My Documents, My Pictures and My Videos. The first two loaded in minutes with no problem. The latter - around 80Gb worth of recordings from the internal TV and transfers of Betamax tapes to the PC - took a couple of hours but that was to be expected I guess. It has worked linked to my wife's Sony Vaio laptop and a friend's Dell Laptop. Everyone I have shown it to has been impressed by the size and ease of use. I'm completely happy with this excellent product. |

I have been a fan of Western Digital Hard Drives for a long time, and this portable offering certainly helps to reinforce my trust in this manufacturer. As a consultant I am regularly travelling between client sites and need a portable storage device that can hold large amounts of data; for virtual PC images, source code and ISO images of CD's and DVD's. The WD passport drive is bus powered so I don't need to lug a power supply with it; and it will fit comfortably in a shirt pocket.
The drive speed is not as fast as an internal drive so running applications from it would not be advisable, but as a storage device it is perfect. Because it relies on bus power the length of USB cable is critical, the shorter the better, so don't lose the provided cable.
