desperately disappointing: Rating: 1 out of 5
Compared to the mastery of Robert Harris' other work - of which I am a huge fan, this is a dreadful, dull, uninspiring, completely unbelievable read. What a waste of time!
Cheryl Blair works for who?????.: Rating: 4 out of 5
The Ghost My first Robert Harris read, does Mr Harris`s socialising with the the Blairs give him an insight into the truth, the basis for fictional scribing, or somewhere between both??
Can`t imagine the likes of Bush and Margaret Beckett fitting into the equasion!!
A good read with a twist, "Archangel" next.
Political Secrets.............: Rating: 5 out of 5
This is the first political thriller I have ever read and is out of the box for me. The title refers to a Ghost writer, one who pens an autobiography for a famous person without a credit. The Ghost writer in this novel takes over the reins from Mike McAra the previous writer who dies mysteriously whilst writing the memoirs of ex-British Prime Minister, Adam Lang (who incidentally appears to have been modelled on Tony Blair).

Our new Ghost writer, who suitably is never named in the book, picks up where Mike McAra left off and after a chance discovery amongst Mike's research material finds himself on a trail to discovering some dangerous political secrets, which leads on to a fantastic climax and a conclusion which you would never have guessed! I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it. A real "page turner".
The Ghost: Rating: 5 out of 5
The Ghost

Robert Harris is my favourite author for his ability to produce
factual fiction. I can escape and learn at the same time.

The Ghost is a departure from Harris's normal themes and is based on the death of a Ghost writer and discoveries made by his replacement. The story is based on the memoirs of the British ex-Prime Minister, Adam Lang. Adam was a very charismatic Prime Minister with a very close relationship to his wife, Ruth (described as not being particulary liked by tv and camera lense but more attractive in the flesh, with a mop of dark short hair. Also known for speaking her mind and being quite vocal) REMIND YOU OF ANYONE? Adam shot through the political ranks and was a refreshingly different type of prime minister - enigmatic, down to earth etc.

The book is based on the period immediately after Adam Lang leaves office and he is based in America, conducting seminars to promote his foundation. Throughout his administration he was critisized for his pro-American decisions, especially regarding the "war on terror".

The ghostwriter has difficulty discovering the real man behind Adam Lang and makes discoveries about Adam, Ruth, the circumstances surrounding the death of the previous Ghostwriter and connections to organisations which fill the writer with fear for his own life.

Once over the similarities to "Tony and Cherie", the story line unfolds with the most unsuspected twist - right at the end......... Excellent and yet again, the amount of research conducted is evident. Enjoy.
Pacy, thought provoking - sharp ending though...: Rating: 4 out of 5
I am a big fan of Harris and realy like The Ghost. It is fairly predictable although still carried enough twists to keep you thinking. Ive been slack on the reading front recently but this pulled me in and I flew through it.

The ending was far from disappointing but still felt a little abrupt for me.
