Buyer Beware: Rating: 1 out of 5
SD is, in my opinion, a great product, but I have established (after many years of use) that their customer service is truly dreadful.

Recently, I took out a subscription for Spyware Doctor . I had had a previous version of SD with Antivirus, but didn't want to pay for antivirus software I don't need/want, so I uninstalled the old version and bought a completely NEW subscription of SD (ONLY). I downloaded the software and ran the executable, following the instructions, but when I click on the 'Spyware Doctor' shortcut (or go through start>programs), I am told that I need to perform a Smart Update to download the malware removal databases (it doesn't open up the regular SD window). If I click on this it tries to go into a smart update and then tells me that my subscription has expired and I need to renew it! (It takes me to the web page to do so, of course.)

I have so far had SD for SEVEN days (for which I am paying, of course) but cannot use it, of course. I submitted a customer help request - literally seven days ago (so much for the 'we endeavour to reply within 24 hrs' message that comes back) - and have heard absolutely nothing. I am not a PC idiot, but am completely stumped by this problem and it seems that PC Tools are happy to snap up my cash, but then provide NOTHING in the way of support.

I have now e-mailed the support folks, but am not optimistic. I am truly frustrated and intend to resolve this and then go elsewhere for malware protection - I've been a loyal customer of PC Tools for some years, but am thoroughly cheesed off. I see on the WWW that they have been bought out by Symantec - I wonder if that has made the difference?
Poor, poor online service from Spyware Doctor (again no Activation Code): Rating: 1 out of 5
I recently purchased Spyware Doctor (Amazon delivered as usual) and surprise, surprise I too experienced the "missing" manual and activation code from the box. I contacted the Spyware Doctor Support team four times via email requesting the missing activation code and each time "support" suggested I send the product back to Amazon. In this internet age of immediacy I was disappointed with the lack of responsibility and the response from Spyware Doctor's support team. I would recommend the FREE version of this programme (no support required) which is available via a little searching on a major search engine site. Sadly this is one frustrated and indeed one lost customer for Spyware Doctor.
No activation code: Rating: 4 out of 5
Also had no activation code with the retail version. This is a good piece of software but you are better off downloading it straight from their website. It is also worth checking out their FREE security software (e.g. AntiVirus, Firewall Plus, and ThreatFire).
Where is the manual!!!: Rating: 2 out of 5
I had the free trial version of this which is good but when i bought the retail version it was missing the manual with the activation code to install the software. This happened twice and also even if i did have the manual with the code for some reason it kept saying i had a connection problem when i didn't (internet connection). If you really desperately need to get rid of spyware then buy off their site but be warned this company likes to put you on automatic subscription so they'll take money out of your account straight away just before your subscription ends; you have to e-mail them to get your money back and cancel all subscriptions.
The software is good and it has an excellent support system with engineers on hand with e-mail assistance.
